HOME OFFICE PEOPLE SURVEY

PCS POSITION TO REMAIN AS 2022

Summary: Following the carrying of motion A16 at 2016 conference, the GEC considered the position in relation to PCS members completing the staff survey.

Members will be shortly seeing the communications from the Home Office highlighting the launch of the 2023 people survey. You will also be aware that since 2011 the PCS Home Office GEC has recommended to members that they do not complete the staff survey due to a number of issues experienced by members and PCS officials as a result of the staff survey, along with a lack of assurances from the survey managers. Home Office Pay Offer 23/24

Summary:

Department publish 2023/24 Pay Offer.
PCS Analysis of Offer

Members of PCS have been engaged in a long running industrial dispute with the government about our pay rates, pension contributions, compensation scheme and job security.  This is at a time when the cost-of-living crisis is ravaging all ourincomes and eroding our standards of living leaving us little option but to take industrial action to defend ourselves.

Members from across PCS have taken part in hundreds of days of targeted action that includes our members in Border Force for six days over Christmas period, and again over the February half-term in the Southeast.  And of course, the 25 days of continuous action in the Passport Office, a remarkable undertaking.  All this action across the union has been supported by members financial contributions to the levy to fundstrike pay, and the three days of unpaid national action which we all took part in February, March and April.

📣📣 Myth Busting
📣’I’m a new entrant and still on probation, can I take part in strike action?’
Yes, strike action is a protected legal act and you cannot be penalised for striking whilst on probation. 👀
📣 ‘Will you be striking?’ (if asked by a manager)
There is absolutely no requirement for a member to confirm in advance that they will be on strike. A polite response such as, “I’d rather not comment” or “I haven’t made my mind up”, would be appropriate. 😎
📣 ‘I’m not a PCS Rep or Advocate, can I join a picket line ?’
Yes, the more the merrier, it’s great for maintaining morale and visibly provides a strong message to the employer. 👀 🐕
📣 ‘I’m worried, is picketing legal ?’
Yes, picketing is a fundamental right to be able to protest. Your employer cannot prevent peaceful picketing, it it our legal right. 😎
